Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2009
‘Jake Geer Paints America Journey’ commences. For years, my husband, Jake Geer and (as he calls me on a good day, and they are all good days, although I may not always be ‘good’),  his ‘darling wife, Evelyn,’ that would be myself, have formulated an adventure. Jake and I painting and writing our way across America…a journey of unlimited dimensions rich in meeting people, eating their foods, singing their songs, dancing their dances…finding our way down back country roads and climbing mountain peaks for vistas that reach up and our to an endless sky scape.

I look forward to is going to Georgia O’Keefe’s ‘Ghost Ranch,’ Abiquei, New Mexico. I imagine it under a cool blue western sky, graced in the speckled light of countless stars.

Our compadre Brian said, “Ghosts are human energy fields left behind…a gossamer trace…” I hope to experience Georgia’s gossamer trace in Abiquei. In love with Stieglitz, she left him in New York each year, six months at a time, living alone in Sante Fe, a landscape familiar to her soul.

“The bones aren’t death to me,” she said. O’Keefe painted animal bones juxtaposed to flowers.

September 21, 2009, our house in Sterling Valley went up in smoke. I raised my son, Sean Patrick Earl there. Fire can never burn my memories.

Pushed out of the nest like a baby bird, in God’s embrace, we embark from our temporary home- Montgomery, Vermont (digression on this later). Cruising south-Rt 2, towards Middlebury, 58 miles per hour. Car feels like its downshifting…4th geer to 3rd geer, to 2nd. Pulling over off the the road…an angel stops…car is towed to The Old Stage Coach Inn and here we are…I called my darling son Sean, a car buff…one revolution of the engine. our engine’s dead and here we are…motorless in Waterbury, Vermont….stay posted until tomorrow.
